Description: Rete Natura 2000 è una rete di aree destinate alla conservazione della biodiversità sul territorio dell'Unione Europea, relativa alla conservazione degli habitat naturali e seminaturali e della flora e della fauna selvatiche. I siti Natura 2000 sono individuati per caratteristiche naturali, paesaggistiche e culturali definite mediante specifici atti legislativi. La direttiva 92/43/CEE "Habitat", prevede la realizzazione della rete ecologica europea Natura 2000 formata da "Zone Speciali di Conservazione" (ZSC) e "Zone di Protezione Speciale" (ZPS) e si pone in continuità con la direttiva 2009/147/CE "Uccelli", relativa appunto alla conservazione degli uccelli selvatici. Il recepimento della direttiva "Habitat" è avvenuto in Italia attraverso il DPR 357/1997, modificato e integrato dal DPR 120/2003. La Regione ha costituito una propria rete composta da 102 siti di cui: 95 ZSC, 5 ZPS , 1 ZSC/ZPS "Palude di Colfiorito" e 1 SIC/ZPS "Monti Sibillini" che interessano il 15,9% del territorio regionale per una superficie complessiva di circa 140.000 ettari, con parziale sovrapposizione areale di alcuni ambiti.
